In 2012, South Lakeland District Council carried out the Clean Streets consultation, which considered introducing Dog Control orders. More than 1,000 people responded and, after considering the responses, the orders were put in place. Since then, the focus has been on prevention, through awareness, which included signs, leaflets and enforcement. 5 years on, the Dog Control legislation will expire in October 2017 and we have the option of replacement with a Public Space protection order. This survey asks a series of questions about dogs and public spaces. It is your opportunity to provide feedback on dog control matters in your area. To all gardeners, the date for judging this year is 26th July. Judges will look at all gardens in the area. There is no need to enter the competition.

The Town Council Annual Parish meeting takes place next week - on Wednesday 12th April at 6.30pm in the Marchesi Centre (Cecil Reed room). It is YOUR meeting when you can raise any issues about the local area with your Windermere Town Councillors. We would love to see you there so do come along!

Thanks go to all the individuals and groups who went out and about in such poor weather this week and cleaned up our beautiful area. A big round of applause to the Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, ladies of the Inner Wheel, Windermere Women's Institute, Goodly Dale School, Brownies & Rainbows, Theresa Wooll, Kevin Trevor from Brambles, David Bolton, Frank Wilson. Altogether over 30 bags of rubbish was removed from our beautiful area by Ben Taylor of SLDC. The Clean for the Queen week in Windermere has been organised for the week commencing 27th March 2017. Local groups will be getting together to pick litter around the area and spruce it up. If you or your group fancy getting involved, contact Simone Backhouse at [email protected]. All equipment is provided.

0300 303 2992 Residents are being reminded about changes to waste and recycling collections over the Christmas and New Year period.
Collection calendars sent out to every household already indicate these festive season date changes and people are being urged to check their calendars to make sure they know when to put out their bins and boxes. The calendars are also available on South Lakeland District Council’s website by inputting a postcode at: http://www.southlakeland.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/collection-calendar/ For the week commencing 19 December all collection dates will be as normal. However, from the week commencing Monday, 26 December, collections will be changed, with some collections being made earlier than usual. If your collection day is usually a Monday, instead of being picked up on 26 December your collection will be made two days early on Saturday, 24 December. If your normal collection day is a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday then in the week commencing 26 December your collection will be a day later – ie Tuesday, 27 December collection will be made on Wednesday, 28 December. From the week commencing Monday, 2 January, all collections will be one day later than usual. Real Christmas trees can be recycled using the green garden waste bin, or can be taken to one of the waste and recycling centres, at Rothay Holme, Ambleside; Guides Lot, Grange; Canal Head, Kendal or Morecambe Road, Ulverston. Residents are also reminded that old Christmas cards can be recycled using the recycling box for paper, and in areas that are now on cardboard kerbside recycling then card packaging from Christmas presents can be placed in the same box. This year, the Christmas Lights switch on will take place on Saturday 3rd December.

This year's annual awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 22nd September at 7pm, at the Ladyholme Centre. Our chance to celebrate all that is good about Windermere & Bowness.
A group of people in Windermere are in need of a Zumba Gold instructor. There is some availability at the Ladyholme Centre in the daytime.
